Who doesn’t know Friendster? Everyone knows Friendster and some people even got addicted with it. Friendster is a good media for social networking. It helps us stay connected with friends, families or even celebrity fans club.
That’s not just it. Friendster also has other features such as picture gallery, private message, bulletin board, your friends’ birthday reminder and even blog for your personal website or online diary.
And sometime, people often use Friendster’s private message facility to send message to friends instead of sending the message directly via email.
Let’s get to the point then. Why you should NOT depend on Friendster too much.
I don’t know whether you realized it or not. Friendster is one of websites that’s blocked by some company proxy because it’s not a business related site and therefore does not worth visiting.
What does it mean? It means that if your friends work for a company with strict control of their internet traffic, 99% chance they will not be able to visit Friendster.
- That means if you use Friendster to send message to your friends, they won’t be able to read your messages.
- That means if you use Friendster to share your picture gallery, your friends can’t see it.
- That means if you use Friendster for your blog or personal website, your friends can not visit your blog.
That means your friends will have to go back home or cyber café to read your message, see your gallery or visit your blog.
However, there are solutions:
- For sending messages to friends, use your email.
- For picture gallery, you can sign up with some free gallery hoster such as flickr or picasaweb.
- For your blog, you can sign up with blogspot or wordpress.
I am writing this not because I don’t like / hate Friendster, but I just want to let people know that not everyone can surf Friendster’s website because of their company internet policy.
