If It Ain’t Broke, Check It!

Website & Internet  4 Comments

Sometimes the phrase “If It Ain’t Broke, Don’t Fix It!” does not always true ;)

Few days ago I found a strange problem on my other websites where the email sent out from wordpress could not get through to some users. After thorough investigation on the bounce email message, I finally managed to find the culprit and kicked its butt far away :D

I made a post about the problem and how to resolve it on my other blog.

That script has been working for years without any problem and I just recently noticed it. So next time you think that your webscripts are running just fine, re-check them ;;)

Blogger vs Bloger

English  5 Comments

Scholarships CenterBefore the decision of using blogger.batam.web.id as the domain for Batam Bloggers Directory, there was a little debate between Hasanul, Geblek and Husein regarding “Blogger vs Bloger” here & here. I will not express my comment in those two conversations as I think I will be a little bit out of date (basi). Instead I will make a posting here on my own blog, at least a bit traffic for me … hehehe …

For me, the correct word to be used is Blogger with double G. Why?

Let me flash back our memory to our English lesson when we were at the Junior High School (or maybe lesson for Elementary School now). We can take the decision by looking at the word pattern, Consonants & Vowels. If you want to add Suffix (-ing, -ed or -er) to words that have the ending pattern of CVC (consonant - vowel - consonant) or CCVC (consonant - consonant - vowel - consonant) then we must double the latest consonant.

Example of words with CVC or CCVC pattern at the end:

  • log -> logging, logged or logger
  • blog -> blogging, blogged or blogger
  • clip -> clipping, clipped or clipper
  • kidnap -> kidnapping, kidnapped or kidnapper

Example of words without CVC or CCVC pattern at the end:

  • rock (CVCC) -> rocker (without doubling the last K)
  • sing (CVCC) -> singing or singer (without doubling the last G)
  • eat (VVC) -> eating (without doubling the last T)
  • watch (CVCCC) -> watching (without doubling the last H)

Now you know why you should use blogger with double G instead of bloger.

Thanks to lupinworks.com for reminding me this lesson and please CMIIW as English is not my mother tongue :p

United Arab Emirates - My Photo Gallery

My Life  No Comments

Early this year, January 2007, I got the chance to visit the UAE (Sharjah & Dubai precisely) sponsored by my previous company for business purpose (IT Dept yearly meeting). But I was just too lazy to upload the pictures taken while I was there to my gallery. Finally today I uploaded quite a bunch of them, enough to refresh my memory on how beautiful UAE is :x

batam.com Hacked!

Buzz, Website & Internet  9 Comments

Just received SMS from Kang Ifin telling me that batam.com got hacked! I immediately checked the website and found this:

batam.com Hacked!
click image to see large size

For those of you who are interested to see the website, BE CAREFULL as the hacker put trojan script / virus that may do harm to your computer. My Antivirus detected the trojan as “Exploit-MS06-014” & “VBS/Psyme“. That virus only got caught when I browsed the website using IE, but not Firefox ;)

Oh man :( I’m a webmaster too, managing few websites that feed me and my family. Hope the hacker was kind enough :| that he did not delete any data from the server.
