I started my own custom made website since the last 2 or 3 years. Spent my time in building a website for my own that can suit the need of my cyber island ![]()
I started my website with just simple HTML and moving towards with Server Side Scripting using ASP.NET with VB.NET. To be honest, I was a complete newbie in web programming stuff. I did some programming when I was in college, but not web application.
I learnt enough, but not much
, about dot Net, database for web application, cookies, web security and many more. I really enjoyed making my website because programming logic is one of good excercises for our brain.
I remember, there was a time when someone from local IT services and training institution saw my website which was made using ASP.NET contacted me for an interview. He offered me a chance as a dot Net instructor in one of their training class.
I attended the interview, and after having a little chit chat, I found out that they need dot Net instructor with C#
He gave me some time to learn about C#. I accepted it as a challenge and I will proof it by converting my website from VB to C#.
Yes, I did successfully converted all the code in my website into C# in less than a month
but that guy never contacted me
Well at least I have learnt new thing, C#. Take the positive, forget the rest ![]()
By the time I developed my own custom made website, I saw a term called blog. I was interested a bit about blog and tried a free service from www.blogger.com. After doing some experiment with my blog on blogspot.com I finally turned my way back to my own website.
The reasons why I did not like blogspot were:
- I found it hard to change the layout to be perfectly the same as I wanted it to be. Yes, I know we can simply modify the theme. But I don’t know, I just didn’t like it. It was just too complicated for me as a newbie blogger

- On a blog homepage, posts are displayed based on descending date posted. I could not display something else like most visited posts or post with most comments.
- I couldn’t find the way to create a poll, at least to get a poll on the quality of my website from the visitors’ point of view.
- I could not add a new add-on feature that I could coded by myself.
- and may be other reasons that I forgot

Well, I think that’s it for now. I’ll continue this post on the next part 2 once I got the time ![]()
For the mean time, please share your opinion by leaving a comment. Thanks.
